Chin implants
Providing facial balance and improving facelifts

According to the AAFPRS, not only does the chin have “remarkable influence” on the look of the face and neck, but improving its shape “can have positive effects on other areas that you might not anticipate.”

One such area of a well-defined chin—achievable with silicone chin implants—is the balance it gives to other facial features like the nose.

A weak chin can make the nose seem significantly larger than it really is. The AAFPRS states, “Surgeons who specialize in rhinoplasty…are often the first to suggest that changes in chin size or shape may enhance a profile as much as rhinoplasty.” As such, a silicone implant with the right size and shape can augment the chin and give the nose a more aesthetic proportion.

 CHIN IMPLANTS FOR IMPROVED FACELIFTS

Another area that benefits from an improved chin shape is that of facelifts, performed by many surgeons in conjunction with chin augmentation.

In their NIH article involving alloplastic chin implants, Harris & Raggio (2021) state, “Chin augmentation can significantly improve the results of a facelift by lengthening the jawline and providing a better framework in which to reposition the soft tissues of the face.”

This is particularly important for those with a weak chin, as the skin pulled tighter in a facelift can make a receding chin appear even more so. (As a note, soft tissue loss in the aging midfacial area can cause a gaunt, somewhat skeletal look after a facelift. To head that off, you can first restore the volume with malar or submalar implants from Implantech. But, I digress!)

So whether it’s for more youthful facial balance, a better facelift framework or both, your patient will benefit from an aesthetically pleasing chin. Just choose from our wide array of chin implants made of silicone, ePTFE-covered silicone (Composite™) or solid ePTFE.
